A Wonderment!!!

What is it?  Why is it?  What caused it?
This  is a Tupperware pan of water we have set out for the birds.  This morning it is 25 degrees here.  Jeep in talking on the HAM Radio and has a view out the front window.  When it got to be daylight, he said, "Come here and look at this!!"  We went out and made some pictures of this oddity.

There is nothing above this pan.  We can't figure out how this happened.  Any ideas??
I think it's just another WONDERMENT!

Neat... When water freezes, the ice lifts..That's why it stays at the top of our glasses when we have ice water... Interesting, huh? Love it.

Buy yourself a small 'heated' birdbath for the birds. Ours hooks to the deck railing. They love it.

Hugs,
Betsy

How neat, Dorothy! I love seeing things like that. Guess we'll never know what caused it.

There's a scientific explanation for this as Betsy suggested, but I prefer to simply mark it up as another marvel of nature and nature's God.

Mike gave me a possible scientific explanation, but not sure I can repeat it correctly. The surface water froze, and because it is in plastic....which can give, it expanded a little somewhere and a bit of water squirted up through a crack in the surface and then froze.....something like that! Physics was never my subject!
