Old Fashioned Banana Pudding

On the third Sunday each month,  there is a fellowship meal after the  morning worship service at McAdams United Methodist Church where Jeep is Pastor.  The Baptist come across the road and join us for this sumptuous meal.

This is the beginning of a Banana Pudding I made for the meal.

Getting the meringue ready to top the pudding.

Ready for the oven.

A sneak peek at the browned pudding.

This is just as yummy as it looks!

Ready for the trip.  Here is the recipe:

Old Fashion Banana Pudding

1 cup sugar
2 T Flour
2 T. Cornstarch
dash of salt
2 cup milk
4 eggs
4 or 5 bananas
1 box vanilla wafers
1 t. vanilla flavoring

Mix sugar, flour, salt, milk and egg yolks.  (Save whites for the meringue.)  Boil until it thickens, add vanilla flavoring. Put vanilla wafers in bottom, layer sliced bananas and pudding, ending with pudding.

Meringue
Beat egg whites until stiff, add 1/3 cup sugar, a dash of salt and 1/4 tsp. Cream of Tartar and beat until stiff. Bake in 350 degree oven until meringue browns.

*  I put a new twist on preparing this.  I put the first six ingregients in a microwave safe bowl and microwaved for about 3 minutes, then used a whisk to stir.  Continue microwaving a few minutes and stiring until it thickens.  The mixture thickens fast and eliminates all that waiting and stirring when cooked in a double boiler.  (Just watch close and stir often.)  Enjoy!

My husband loves Banana Pudding. I have never been much of a pudding eater. It may be a texture thing.
I love that the Baptists come and join the Methodists every month. Our Baptist churches get together for associational meetings but don't know that we have ever fellowshipped on a regular basis with another denomination.

Oh, yum! My husband's favorite! We always make him a banana pudding for his birthday....didn't this year because of the Nutri-System. Next year he'll have a LOT to celebrate!

Your pudding recipe is big enough for a family of six and I want some now.
