Check out the Pollen on this Bee

 

Is this a greedy bee, or what? Look at the large collection of pollen on his upper legs! It's a wonder that he can fly after collecting so much pollen!! I watched him as he gathered the pollen and deposited it on his thighs. We women sort of have the same process, only we just eat and it goes there automatically!!!!

Sphinx Moth

 

This is called a Sphinx Moth and looks like a cross between a big bumblebee and a butterfly! There are zillions of different kinds of these moths shown on the Internet. Some people mistake this moth for a hummingbird because it buzzes around sipping nectar like the hummingbirds. Today there were more butterflies and some hummingbirds zipping around the yard.

Hairy Legged Green Spider

 

I don't really like these little spiders, but I thought this one was sort of cute!

Today's Blessings

 

This morning (July 25th) the flowers were covered with bees, butterflies and skippers. I think they are as happy as we are about getting two inch and a half rain showers!

French Camp

 

On Wednesday July 23rd the "Young at Heart" group from our church went to French Camp and ate lunch at the Council House Cafe. Our group of about 20 people enjoyed great food, fellowship and just being out for a nice drive down the Natchez Trace Parkway. We also drove through Jeff Busby Park (Little Mountain) and enjoyed the view from the top. We saw a few trees that had recently been blown down by the high winds and a very tall pine tree that had been hit by a bolt of lightning and split from top to bottom in three different places! On our way home after we left our passengers at the church, we went to pick up a bushel of peas and took some back roads on the way back home. My hubby (ole Eagle Eye) spotted a large doe Deer grazing on a field of peanuts and we stopped and made pictures of her. Then it was back home to the pea shelling for one and a nap for the other!

The Man from Aldersgate

 

On June 29, 2008, B.J. Johnston of Jackson, MS, presented a wonderful program at Eupora First United Methodist Church about John Wesley, the man from Aldersgate. He packed a lot of information and facts, all taken from the writings of John Wesley, about his life, ministry and doctrine, into the eleven o'clock worship service. We were impressed at how the first two rows of children listened intently as he talked. At times he slowly peeled and sliced an apple and gave pieces of it to the children. In telling about Wesley's giving to the church and the poor, he took coins out and gave some of them to the children as he told the story. Mr. Johnston was dressed in full costume and makeup as he gave his presentation. He takes his one-man ministry all over the USA. After the program the whole church enjoyed a cookout, drinks and, of course, lots of desserts!

Today's Blessing

 

These wonderful little Ruby Throated Hummingbirds feed fast and furious just about dusk. They are tanking up for the long dark night and they fight for a chance to have the feeder all to themselves. We get a kick out of watching them and trying to get a good picture. These little jewels are truly a blessing!

Silver Spotted Skipper on a Zinnia

 

Early this morning the flowers were covered with busy little skippers having their breakfast. This one looked so pretty sitting on the apricot colored zinnia with the sunlight shinning through the yellow patches in his wings.

Tea for Two

 

Two female Ruby Throated Hummingbirds came to the feeder at the same time yesterday.

It's Wild in the Country!

 

When I started to close the back door for the night, I got a surprise! The yard light revealed this strange looking creature poking around. We quickly got our cameras and tried to get some pictures. This Armadillo must have been blind and hard of hearing because he didn't pay any attention to us until we got really close to him, then he scurried away. We were amazed at his coat of armor! It looks metallic under the lights.

My Friend, Freddy

 

Freddy always comes to meet me when I go to the fence and whistle. He probably thinks I have carrots or sugar cubes for him, but I only want to make his picture. I wanted the white horse, Dobbin, to come over, too, but all he wanted to do was graze. I guess it was their breakfast time because it was quite early this morning!

Sunday Sunset

Yesterday as we came home from evening worship services, we saw the possibility of a beautiful sunset. I hurried to get the camera and walked to the road to get a picture of it. When I framed the shot......There were the power lines in the view!
I walked down to a field road to get a clear shot. When it is almost sundown the scenes change so rapidly and you have to be ready if you want to get a shot.

Green on White

 

A white dwarf Zinnia seems to be breakfast for this little green insect. Is this a Katey-did or grasshopper of some kind? Double click picture and see the striped antenea. Every morning there are different kinds of creatures dining on the flowers.

Monday Morning

 

 

I was out early this morning hoping to find a pretty butterfly or something to photograph. This was the best I could do for today. I was happy to see the hairy-legged, green spider on one of the flowers! We usually have a few rabbits in the back yard almost every morning. Guess I was a little too late this time.
