Out for a Ride

We had a late breakfast and a very late lunch/supper today.  We are testing Joe out with mini trips around town to see how he will fare on the long trip home.

We drove down into Augusta and saw some interesting old buildings.  This was an old, very ornate looking church building.  There were so many trees around it, I was unable to get a good shot.

This is another quaint old brick structure.  I have no idea what it was or what it is used for now.  Most of these are drive-by shootings:-)  There was lots of construction work in the foreground.

This beautiful old home is now an Institute of Art.

We drove along the Savannah River and saw a few boats, etc.

This is one that advertises late afternoon one hour excursions on the river.

As we got close to 'home' there were lots of pretty clouds in the sky.

This one was gathering moisture and later gave us a good shower.

At the edge of the river I saw this little turtle swimming around. 

These Crepe Myrtle trees were loaded with blooms!  This was near one of the churches.  I hope we can explore a little more before we leave this town.

Today I'm thankful that Joe felt up to riding around with us!

Early Morning

Although I was the last one to bed last night, I was the first one up this morning.  I put some bread crumbs out for the birds and squirrels.  The mocking bird is looking at me rather indignantly.

It doesn't take long for the animals to find the food.

The Cardinals seem to be molting.  This one is not as bad as one I'll show you later.

This cat hangs around hoping for a handout or maybe a bird!  It has a bad eye and reminded me of the lyrics of a song that says, 'I'm like a one-eyed cat peeping in the seafood store'.  Of course, Jeep had to sing a few bars of Shake, Rattle and Roll, by Bill Haley and the Comets!!

I followed this golf cart trail down to a utility house.  There were lots of birds singing in the trees and I had hoped to get a shot of one, but no luck.

This molting Cardinal takes the prize in the ugliest bird contest!  It appears to have lost all the feathers from its head.

This little Squirrel found the bread crumbs I threw out on the sandy ground.

I like to think he is giving thanks for the morsel he has found:-)

When he has a little  competition, he hides behind a tree.  Maybe tomorrow I'll have better luck getting some shots of this Georgia 'wildlife'.

Cooking, etc.

Looks like I'm going to be doing more of this!  It feels so different trying to cook in a strange kitchen. 

Yesterday (Saturday) I was 'cooking on all four burners'!  After eating almost nothing for two months, Joe is hard to fill up now!  His appetite is back, for sure!  Jeep, Kay and I were used to eating cereal or something easy for breakfast, going out for a late lunch and having a sandwich or, as Jeep calls it, Slim-'Slow' for supper. 

 

After another 'rainy night in Georgia', I saw that the wind had blown these pretty Crepe Myrtle blooms up under our front porch. 

 

On Sunday, Jeep and I attended Marvin United Methodist Church again.  We really enjoyed meeting and worshiping with these people!  Today was probably our last time there, because we hope to be going home to Mississippi by next weekend.  Today they received their new pastor and they are looking forward to a time of new worship experiences with her.

Today we are thankful that we will soon be going home and  look forward to new experiences in our lives as we witness to God's unfailing grace, love and mercy.

Shadow Shot Sunday

Two months ago, my son, Joe, was admitted to the J. M. Still ICU Burn unit in Augusta, GA.  On Saturday, he was discharged and I was thrilled to see Joe and his wife, Kay, headed off for steaks at Logan's on Saturday night.

Today I'm thankful that God still performs miracles!

Transition.......

We are NOT here, as of eleven o'clock this morning!  It's a good place to be when you need it, but it was really good to get Joe out of there after a two month stay! 

I wish I had thought to make a picture of the lunch I cooked today for the homecoming celebration, but I was too busy and too excited at having Joe home.  This was the first day I actually 'cooked' in the apartment!  Jeep said, "I guess I know now where I stand in the pecking order"!

 

I would like to post a picture of Joe, but he is very camera shy and I didn't want to rock the boat today.   Maybe within a week we will be back to our real home.

Today we are so thankful to have Joe home from the hospital!

Welcome "Home" Joe!

If all goes well, on Saturday Joe will see this cute little welcome decoration on the front door of our 'home away from home'.  The doctors thought it would be a good trial run for him to stay at the apartment for a few days to see how he does before making the long trip to his real home.

If he were a little farther along with the healing process, a dip in the pool might feel good!

Maybe he will, at least, feel like watching the ducks on the pond.

Or he might just watch TV and enjoy being out of the hospital.
 He has been confined to one room for two months now!

If he gets to feeling REALLY good, he might want to check out the exercise room!

Joe asked me if I had been cooking at the apartment and I sheepishly told him, No.  He wanted to know, why not?  Well, the kitchen is tiny, and I guess I just didn't want to take up cooking here.  He is quite the chef and was telling me about something he had seen on the cooking channel that he wanted to try.  Kay has requested her favorite casserole so..........it's off to the grocery tomorrow and looks like we will try cooking for the few days that Joe will be here with us.   I guess I need something to keep me out of Golden Corral, Ryan's, etc.

 

Today I'm so thankful that Joe is feeling better and will soon be able to go home!

The doctors have decided to let Joe leave the hospital this coming Saturday, June 26th if he continues to do well.  This will be two months to the day since his April 26th accident.  They suggested that he stay at the apartment with us until after his Wed. (June 30) appointment with his surgeon and then go home to Mississippi on Thursday, July 1st. We will probably take two days for the trip home so he won't get so tired. They wanted him to stay close to the hospital and doctors a few days, just in case there were any problems.  Joe was really happy as his told us about this!

We are all pretty much jumping for joy!!

Prayer Changes Things

One of my sweet blogger friends sent me this for Joe.  I know she won't mind if I post it here.  Joe has been soaring on Eagles Wings since his accident on April 26th.  I know this is true because he has done unusually well according to the doctors and nurses.  I believe God saw fit to smile on Joe because so very many people were praying for him.  Prayer not only changes 'things', it changes the one who prays.  I hope that all of you who have followed Joe's progress so closely and prayed for him so faithfully, will be changed for the better because of it.  I hope your own faith will be strengthened and that your prayer life and walk with the Lord will become sweeter every day. 

Today they took away Joe's walker and said he didn't need it any more!  They are teaching Kay how to care for his grafts and the places where they removed his skin to use for grafts.   The process of getting a shower, medicating his wounds and wrapping them, etc. is quite tiring for him.  I expect that will become easier during the next week and very soon they will be telling him he can go home!
