In Memory of J. V. Swindle

 

The death of  J. V. Swindle,  (on the far right), prompted us to look for this picture so we could make a copy for his widow. The Country Boys Band was a country music band that was formed in F. F. A. (Future Farmers of America) in High School.  This picture was made for the Eupora High School yearbook.   They were excited to get to go to Memphis and perform on the Pride of the Southland Show on Channel 5 TV.   This group played together during most of their four years in High School.  Jeep is the second from the right.  He still has the old note book with the songs they played.  Some of them are handwritten but most are cut out of a country music magazine and pasted in.

The song book is pretty old and tattered.

It contains hundreds of songs, and back in those days, Jeep said he had most of them memorized.

This page, showing the outline of their program for one of their gigs, was funny to me because of the drawings :)

This popular song by Hank Williams is a sample of the ones that were pasted in.

 J.V. Swindle

MAGEE, MS – J.V. Swindle died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins. He was a retired high school administrator, educator and coach. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Magee and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Choctaw County. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Floyd Swindle of Magee; two daughters, Shae Swindle Baria of Magee and Sherie (Timothy) Alexander of Richland; a son, Jay F. (Lynn) Swindle of Ellisville; a brother, J. E. (Lucy) Swindle of Pontotoc; two brothers-in-law, Charles (Betty) Austin and David (Frankie) Eldridge; three sisters-in-law, Jeanette, Boots and Mavis Swindle; seven grandchildlen; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ode to the Bluet

I’m thinking back to long ago
when as a child I yearned for spring
so I could go outside and play
and watch the little birdies sing

Up to the hillside I would roam
to see what treasure I could find.
And when the Bluet field I saw
all cares and woes were left behind.

I knew that springtime had arrived
when I first saw the Bluets there
Just four tiny purple petals

Hi!  My name is Woody.  I’m a cross-cut section of a Photinia shrub that my person sawed down.   My person was so excited when he saw my face!  He went running into the house to show me to his wife!  She set me here on this little piece of cedar and placed me on a curio shelf.  Yes, I know my eyes are pretty far apart and my nose is a little high, but my hair is cute, don’t you agree?  I’m about the size of a silver dollar, but worth much more than that!  In fact, I guess you could say I'm an heirloom, because I've been passed on to the next generation!

Our Webster County Courthouse at Walthall, MS

This is what I saw when I sat down at my computer on Thursday morning, January 17, 2013.

 I could hardly beleive my eyes.   I think Richard Love may have made this picture.  Someone had posted it and a WTVA news article on Face Book.  My daughter-in-law's office is just to the left of the tree.  This is the front of the building which was built in 1915 at a cost of $65,000!!!  It will cost millions to replace it.

This was also the morning we got snow here.  Some locals reported getting 4 inches.

The large windows with the curved tops shown here in the west wall, were in the court room.  

 The wall on the right of picture is the front of the courthouse and faces east.

 

The left side of the picture is the wall that faces north and the left faces west. Richard Love with the Eupora Volunteer Fire Dept. stated, " The final numbers are in. Per the Eupora Water Dept, we used 411 thousand gallons of water out of the Walthall water tank and we shuttled 244 thousand gallons in from Eupora totaling 655 thousand gallons of water we put on the courthouse yesterday morning. That is about 145 thousand gallons of water per hour (or just under 2,500 gallons per minute)"

I think they are already thinking of re-building.

"Belinda Stewart This building was built incredibly well. The vaults did their job - and more. The fire burned for several hours - and yet the records were not burned. There is a bit of water damage. The county has brought in a records restoration company to handle the records. The local fire department - as well as many neighboring fire departments and volunteers - did a heroic job in saving this building and these records! There are many HEROES here!!!"

A Wonderment!!!

What is it?  Why is it?  What caused it?

 This  is a Tupperware pan of water we have set out for the birds.  This morning it is 25 degrees here.  Jeep in talking on the HAM Radio and has a view out the front window.  When it got to be daylight, he said, "Come here and look at this!!"  We went out and made some pictures of this oddity.

 

 

 

 

There is nothing above this pan.  We can't figure out how this happened.  Any ideas??  

I think it's just another WONDERMENT!
