I thought I would see if the horses would eat the discarded celery stalks.



One of the stalks of celery hung on the fence and ole Dobbin came over to investigate.



Dobbin seemed to say, "No, Thanks. I don't like Celery!" And he just walked away.

I'm Thankful For.........

I try to be thankful every day, but at this time of the year, I think I am more focused on all the things I should be thankful for.

I am thankful that God loved us enough to send Jesus to the world to teach us how to live, to die for our sins, to be raised from the dead. I am thankful for all the many blessings that God gives me every day!

I am thankful for my lot of being born in the USA, land of the free and home of the brave.

I am thankful for family...... for the unconditional love and Christian guidance of my parents and grandparents who did their best to teach me how to live....for sisters I love and rely on.....for lots of uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews who have loved me through the years.

I am thankful for the many school teachers and Sunday school teachers who gave unselfishly of their time and energy to guide me in the straight and narrow path.

I'm thankful for having had a long and happy marriage and a beautiful, healthy baby. I'm thankful that he grew up, married and gave me two grandchildren to bless my life. I'm thankful that they have always lived nearby, so I could see them often.

I'm thankful for the way that God took care of me, through His people, after the death of my husband. I could not have gotten through that valley without His help and guidance.

Praise God! He is so good and He still answers prayers! He has greatly blessed me again by bringing Jeep into my life! Jeep is not only my childhood sweetheart, but a good friend, a wonderful husband, and a comfortable companion. Then God decided to give us one more blessing......a zany, crazy, exciting 'teen-age' love for each other!

My World Tuesday

Today started out cloudy, rainy and about 50 degrees. It was one of those days when you just want to cover up your head and go back to sleep. But not today..... company's coming on Thursday for Thanksgiving and there are chores to be done.

Coming home from a trip this afternoon the sun looked like a red ball. My husband pulled off the road and went down a little field road so I could get a picture. Just another Cactus

While my Cactus is blooming, I wanted to share a couple more pictures with you. This one is in the utility room and it has a section that has white blooms. They have already bloomed and dropped off. As I got cuttings from other people, I just stuck them down in this same pot, hence the mixed colors.



One more view.... I was hoping that they would be in full bloom on Thanksgiving Day so our guests could see them, but looks like they may be done by then. Click on the pictures for a larger view.

Watery Wednesday

These are some pictures made at the local American Legion Lake. There are a few Canada geese that make this their home all year.



While I was making pictures at the lake, I saw a fish jump near the bank, but I was too late to 'catch' him. I liked the way the water looked with the reflections of the trees, so I'm sharing it anyway.


This is a spring fed lake and the water is clear and fresh. This is a picture of the overflow pipe, or spillway, that takes the excess water out of the lake. There is also an energency spillway at the end of the dam.

This is a close up of the flowers on the Thanksgiving Cactus.




My Thanksgiving Cactus is about a week early with it's display of blooms.




This was made today at White's Creek Lake after sunset.


Last week I posted a picture made at the American Legion Lake. This one I made there today shows that there has been quite a change in the foliage. Soon the leaves will all be gone.

A week ago we got the dreaded news that my son's job had been terminated. First shock, tears and then prayers. We asked family and friends to pray that he would find work soon. Times are hard right now with so many being laid off and looking for work. Times are especially hard for young folks who are raising their families, paying for their homes, cars, etc. Prayers were answered, and yesterday we got the word that he got a job and will start to work this coming Monday. Thanks be to God! May you have a blessed and peaceful Sunday. I will be in church giving thanks and praise to God.

Things I Would Never Say ~ ~ ~

The first thing you will never hear me say to Jeep, "I don't love you anymore"!




The next is, "Let's just stay at home this year and not go on a vacation."


"Oh, for the good old days!"




I want to go back down and walk miles underground to see Ruby Falls.




Another thing I'd never say, "Honey, I'll drive through town for you!"




The last thing you will never hear me say, "That dessert is too sweet for me"!



Now, go ahead and say 'What you'd never say'!

I went to town to tend to several errands and on the way home I made a few stops. I stopped by my sister's house and this Pampas Grass looked so pretty with the sun shinning through it. This picture doesn't capture the way it really looked.



The sun was very low in the west when I stopped by White's Creek Lake on my way home.



This is another veiw at White's Creek Lake.



I went by the Nursing Home to visit a friend and this Bradford Pear tree just begged me to take its picture.

 

A Little Color ~ Persimmons & Sumac

Raccoon up the 'simmon tree,

Shake some 'simmons down.

When I saw these persimmons on the tree in the backyard, I couldn't help but think of this little verse from the old country song, Bile Them Cabbage Down. Since we have had some frost, I guess you could eat these without them puckering your mouth.



Out for a walk in the backyard, I spotted this very colorful Sumac bush at the edge of the woods. It is such a beautiful day! The temperature is in the mid sixties, the sky is bright blue and the wind is brisk, as it rustles the leaves that have fallen. I tried to coax ole Dobbin, our neighbor's horse, down out of the woods but he would not listen. I think my whistle got lost in the wind that was blowing from the north. I saw several butterflies that were flying south as fast as their delicate wings would carry them. It's amazing how their instinct lets them know when it's time to leave.

Skywatch Friday

As we were coming home from vacationing in the Smoky Mountains, I saw this airplane as it was gaining altitude after taking off from the Birmingham airport. Rock City

The trees and even the small shrubs were all so colorful at Rock City. It has been many years since I was here the for the first time. It was pretty much as I remembered it, but I had never seen it in the Fall before. The colors were awesome!


I didn't intend to cross the Swinging Bridge but I didn't want to be left behind! I hope the cables have been replaced since I crossed on it 40 years ago!


This beautiful red tree looked like it had little dried blooms on it. This is in Rock City, but we saw these in the GSMNP too. This tree has been identified as a Sourwood tree. Thanks Leedra.
