This Bug's for You!

I saw this dragonfly on a walk in the yard early this morning. His wings are transparent except for the veins and the brown spots. I hoped he would land on a flower but he was not interested. While I was focusing on him he was turning his head from side to side. He let me get really close before he flew away.

When the mill was idle, we used to ride on the long pole that the mule pulled around to grind the cane. What fun when it was your turn to ride while someone else pushed!!!

This is my grandson's eight week old boxer puppy. He's a friendly little ball of energy!

This pretty little bird is Joe's Sun Conure named Max. He likes Joe but will not let anyone else handle him. He Bites!! I think they can be taught to talk.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place!

 

Have you ever felt a little like this tree must feel? I think all of us have felt this way at some point in our lives. This tough pine tree chose to just keep growing up. This was at Lake Tahoe last summer. If you ever find yourself in this position I hope that you will choose to just keep on keeping on! My Lucky Day

 

This is my lucky day! I 'just happened' to be out in the yard with the camera set for a close-up, when I spotted this little American Lady Butterfly sitting on one of the small Zinnias. She posed for several more shots, but I think this is the best one. A good report from the doctor is the other thing that makes this my lucky day!
Every day there are many things to be thankful for if we take time to notice!

Summertime.........

 

................And the living is easy, fish are jumping, and the cotton is high....

The flowers have been real pretty and the bees are very busy collecting pollen. I think I'm about finished with the digging for this year because I keep forgetting my age and still think I'm young enough to do everything I want to do!

The second family of Blue Birds to occupy the bird house this year are busy feeding their brood as they are about ready to leave the nest.

Retirement always seemed so far away, but now it's here and I'm happily adjusting to it. It's very relaxing and quiet living in the country. I highly recommend it!

Beautiful Butterflies

 

(I just learned that this butterfly is called a Red-Spotted Purple, although he looks blue to me.)
Early this morning I went out on the back porch and found busy bees and butterflies.
I sprinkled a little water to attract the butterflies and was able to get a few pictures. One small bumblebee was very busy visiting each bloom on the Nemesia plant. I'm sure that they are attracted by the new bed of Zinnias which are in full bloom. Summer in the country......how sweet!

Magnolias

 

Today was a typical, late summer day.....lots of blue sky with a few big, white, fluffy clouds drifting by. While it was quite warm, there was a cool breeze blowing across the lake and through the pavillion where we gathered to celebrate a birthday. The large Magnolia tree nearby was covered with huge, fragrant blossoms. We talked with friends and family, made pictures and enjoyed a delicous lunch, complete with birthday cake and ice cream. The children ran and played and poked around in the water. After a few hours the children looked tired and bored and the adults began to think about going home and taking a nap. It was a very relaxing, pleasant outing and as we returned home I felt very thankful that we live where we are free to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
