Scavenger Hunt ~ Oct. 31

 Scavenger Hunt, hosted by Ashley at Photos and Ramblings, makes the week fly by!   It's time for it again already! 

1.  My Town

The old high school, city park, White's Creek Lake, Main Street, a new sign,  the restored train depot, and the First United Methodist Church.  This one was hard...so much I left out!

2.  Something Vintage 

This old clock sits on a shelf above the TV.  Jeep winds it up every Sunday.  Jeep's father bought it second-hand sometime before he married Jeep's mother in 1918, so it's over 92 years old.

4.  Dress Up

From my archives, this is about as dressed up as we get.
This was made on our wedding day June 9, 2007.  Looks like we could eat each other up!

5.  Chocolate

 

This is my favorite recipe for Chocolate Fudge.

REMARKABLE FUDGE

4 c. sugar

1 2/3 c. evaporated milk (14 1/2 oz.)

1 c. butter

2 c. (12 oz.) chocolate chips

1 pt. marshmallow creme

1 tsp. vanilla

1 c. Pecans, chopped

Butter sides of heavy saucepan and combine sugar, evaporated milk and butter. Cook medium heat to "soft ball stage" (236 degrees), stir frequently. Remove from heat and add chocolate chips, marshmallow creme and vanilla and walnuts. Mix with wooden spoon until chips melt.

Pour into 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan and let cool. Cut into small pieces and enjoy!

Flowers and Butterflies

It's almost November and we still have Lantanas in bloom!

A big frost or freeze will soon kill these flowers.

Meanwhile, it's nice to see the Skippers

 

And the Butterflies enjoying these late flowers.

Today, I'm thankful for the beauty of God's Creation!

Armadillo

These pesky animals usually come out at night and forage around the yard, digging holes here and there, but this one came out in broad daylight. Guess he got hungry earlier than usual.

He looks like some left-over pre-historic monster!

 

He let us walk up pretty close to him before he scurried away into the woods!

I'm thankful that the Armadillo does not attack people!

Notes from Augusta ~ New Blog

All of the regular readers of this blog already know the story about our two months in Augusta, GA waiting for God to heal my son after he was severely burned in an accident at work. I posted almost daily entries about his progress while we were there. I also kept a few entries in a journal and I’ve combined these in a new blog, “Notes from Augusta”, for the purpose of encouraging anyone else who may be going through a similar experience. Finding out about what Courtney and Zane are going through right now, prompted me to go ahead and publish this new blog. This is a young couple that I do not know, but she is a fellow Blogger and a Christian. They need your prayers now, just as you prayed so faithfully for Joe. You can see both stories by clicking on the pictures on my sidebar. I’m happy to report that Joe is working 4 hours a day now as he gradually increases the hours to full time!  He has to stay in where it is air conditioned because he lost so many sweat glands.  We are eternally thankful to all of you who prayed for Joe!

Miscellany

Here are a few of the things I saw on Monday.

Since putting new seeds out we have had several birds coming around that we haven't seen for a while.  This Mockingbird made a quick stop at the feeder this morning.

Talking about quick,  the Chickadee is the fastest one out there.  He swoops in, chants his little song, grabs one sunflower seed and he is gone in two seconds!  Most of the pictures I shot was either of him leaving or else just a picture of where he had been!!

The Cardinals are coming back and they are still motley looking from molting.  Hopefully, they will soon have their winter feathers!

We still have lots of butterflies...mostly these Gulf Fritillaries.

I think these are beautiful, although the pink and orange sort of clash!

And a few of these pretty black and blue ones.

I threw out some left over cornbread crumbled for the birds.

This must be a neighbor's cat.  When it tried to eat the crumbs, he found out there were ants already there.

He kept slapping at the bread to remove the ants!

About that time, he heard the clicking of the camera.

He reminds me of a kitty we had a long time ago.

Just when it was almost dark, I spotted this Armadillo scurrying around out by the woods.  This is the same Armadillo I photographed in September.  I could tell by that scar on his back section of armor and the little nick in his ear.    I guess he lives in the woods behind our house and he's the one who digs up the yard and flower beds!  Is there an open season on these pests??
