The Project

It all started with a big puff of wind!  It blew a few shingles off and Jeep went up to inspect the damage.  We called our insurance agent and they came out and told us we needed a whole new roof.

About the same time, we were adding a roof over the newly poured patio.

They were able to get the roof over the patio in time for us to get the new shingles put on the whole thing so it would not look like it was added on.

Then they bricked up around the patio.  I jokingly referred to this as our 'veranda'.  When I think of a veranda, I think of Gone With the Wind, tall white columns, Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh sitting there on the veranda, drinking Mint Juleps:)

I thought this would be a wonderful place if it were just screened in.  Jeep didn't want it screened in.  I said well, we could have it windowed in, and that would be even better!  We could use it year round!  It has taken five years of me 'pouting' about it, but they are here now, getting it done.

On March 14th, they brought some of the material for the new project.

Work began March 19th, 2013!  It will have eleven windows and a glass door!

The windows are in! 

They have more work to do, but I think it is a great addition to our house.

 

In pleasant weather, can you just imagine being out there with all the windows up and the fresh air coming in! In cooler weather we can have a little heat on and still enjoy it in winter.   No bugs, mosquitoes or birds will be allowed here anymore.  It's the weekend, so I'll post more later.

Sunday at McAdams UMC~ Jeff & Banjo

We had a treat last Sunday at McAdams United Methodist Church!


Jeep is greeting our special guests, Jeep's son, Jeff and his wife, Cheryl, as they arrived from Jackson.   Jeff is going to play and sing a special for us, as well as play for the congregational singing.

Like father, like son!  Two peas in a pod!

This is McAdams United Methodist Church.  Isn't it beautiful!

 

Jeff is tuning up before the service.  We need to get him to preach  one Sunday for Jeep.  He does that rather well, also!

This is a video of Jeff playing the banjo and singing 'God on the Mountain'.  ( Remember I'm not a professional videographer:)  This became a favorite song of mine when we went through the dark valleys with  my son, Joe as he recovered from his horrific accident.  There at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, GA, we learned (again) that He really IS God in the valleys, as well as God on the Mountain!!

This was a few days earlier at home.  Sorry about the lighting!  I love it when Jeep and his children sing and play together.  They are all very talented.

Old Fashioned Banana Pudding

On the third Sunday each month,  there is a fellowship meal after the  morning worship service at McAdams United Methodist Church where Jeep is Pastor.  The Baptist come across the road and join us for this sumptuous meal.



This is the beginning of a Banana Pudding I made for the meal.

Ready for the trip.  Here is the recipe:

Old Fashion Banana Pudding

1 cup sugar

2 T Flour

2 T. Cornstarch

dash of salt

2 cup milk

4 eggs

4 or 5 bananas

1 box vanilla wafers

1 t. vanilla flavoring

Mix sugar, flour, salt, milk and egg yolks.  (Save whites for the meringue.)  Boil until it thickens, add vanilla flavoring. Put vanilla wafers in bottom, layer sliced bananas and pudding, ending with pudding.

Meringue

Beat egg whites until stiff, add 1/3 cup sugar, a dash of salt and 1/4 tsp. Cream of Tartar and beat until stiff. Bake in 350 degree oven until meringue browns.

*  I put a new twist on preparing this.  I put the first six ingregients in a microwave safe bowl and microwaved for about 3 minutes, then used a whisk to stir.  Continue microwaving a few minutes and stiring until it thickens.  The mixture thickens fast and eliminates all that waiting and stirring when cooked in a double boiler.  (Just watch close and stir often.)  Enjoy!

"Woo Hoo Hoo, Looking out my Backdoor" (this morning)

 

Desperado wandered up in the woods and stood very still in the sun for a long time.  A female Cardinal came by to see if I had put out more seed.  Two or three squirrels scampered across the bare branches of the trees while a Mockingbird (the one that pecks on our window, I suspect:( searches for bugs and worms in the frosty Henbit.   Looking out my backdoor, made me think of this old song:

Another One Hits the Glass!

This little Dark-eyed Junco met up with the glass at full speed this morning.  After holding him, and petting him a while, he was able to fly away.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Yes, I know I could put something on all the windows and doors that would possible prevent these crashes, but I have decided against it.  Maybe that's cruel, but I don't want to clutter up the windows.
