Route 66 Museum

We stopped and spent some time in Clinton, OK at the Route 66 Museum today. It was time well spent, as we recalled fond memories when it was in its heyday during the Sixties and 70's.

They had tons of memorabilia related to the famous Route 66. 

This string of lights shows the route.

Jeep said this is a road grader.  I'll take his word for it.

Remember the old telephone booth with the rotary dial phone????

Familiar Rock and Roll music was playing.

This 1955 Chevy was their featured piece in the front window.  My sis and her hubby had one very similar to this and in the same color.

I think this is a 1912 International truck.  Isn't it a beauty!!

We talked with some nice folks who suggested we pose in this booth.

The lights in this room did weird things with colors.  Jeep looks like a 70's Flower Child!

I offered to serve them up a milkshake and hamburger, like I learned to do as a teenager working in Bowen's Dairy Bar.

This sign was on the exit door of the theater where a short movie was shown.

Today I am thankful for happy memories!

A Few Pictures ....

We are still on the road, so there's not much time for blogging. I just wanted to share a few of the pictures we made day before yesterday. We didn't have Internet service at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

We spent a little time at Zion.

We liked the North Rim better than the South, which we saw four years ago.  Jeep drove to each and every place to view the canyon and some were a long drive.  I must say, it was worth it to see the views!

The North Rim is not nearly as crowded.

These scrubby bushes were in full bloom and covered with bees at the highest place, Cape Royal.

This Indian Paintbrush was there, too.

This is one of the views we found at the Cape Royal view point.  

We came out just at dusk and saw lots of deer.  In one meadow, we saw many groups and estimated that there were about 50 deer grazing there.

I liked this one and named it Bambi!

I was surprised to see a few people actually climbing these rocks!

Jeep survived this 100 degree day better than I did.  We drank lots of water.

Many of the rocks looked blue/green.

I thought these looked like "We Three Kings" bringing gifts to the Christ child.

This is Delicate Arch.  We hiked up a long and steep trail to get to this vantage point.  The noon day temperature was 100 degrees.

Jeep wanted you to see how far away we were from the arch.  The long lens brought it closer.

This is a different arch near the road.  I can't remember the names of all the formations, but they were a sight to see!  So much more than we dreamed of seeing!  We made over 400 pictures today!  Must sleep now!

Today, I'm thankful we survived the long, hot, hike and for safe travel.
